Concerts in Glasgow
The Glasgow concert scene is always alive with activity. Tickets can range from cheap to expensive depending on the event you are attending, but one thing is guaranteed: your satisfaction. Each venue in Glasgow has been refitted over the years resulting in some very hi-tech arenas. There’s a big event on most weekends, and there’s usually something going on during the week, such as fairs and boutiques. Transport to the venues is easy and cheap, especially when staying at one of our self-catering apartments in Glasgow West End, where you’re never far from the action.
But you should, of course, check the websites of the venue for details of more events and how to book your tickets. Glasgow’s quality live music venues all come together to offer you an excellent mix of classical, world music and popular entertainment to suit your particular taste.
The SSE Hydro & Clyde Auditorium
The Clyde Auditorium, sometimes referred to as “the armadillo”, looks a bit like a mini Sydney Opera House. The Hydro, situated in the old Queens Dock following a £36 million investment, has become one of Glasgow’s biggest and best venues for concerts, conferences, and other large events in Glasgow. Having already been host to some of Scotland’s biggest occasions, the Hydro should be on your list of visits. With an easy and cheap route from our self-catering apartments, you really don’t have an excuse not to go!
O2 Academy
Opened in March 2003 with an epic one-off show by Deacon Blue, the O2 Academy is a multi-million-pound restoration of the building’s original art deco features. As a venue and host, it has built up a reputation within the industry and public for top-quality front-of-house and backstage facilities. It is one place to go for rock, pop and dance events. With convenient links to the Georgian Guest House and bargain ticket prices, this venue should be on your to-do list.
O2 ABC
Back in 1896, the ABC housed Scotland’s first cinema. The building has gone through many phases, referred to as the Ice Palace, The Hippodrome and Hengler’s Circus, until reverting to its original cinema status. Since then has been known as The Regal, MGM, Cannon and now the ABC. The building was converted to a concert venue in 2005 with a £ 2 million investment.
